Croeso!
Welcome back!
I hope you all had a lovely summer holiday and are refreshed and ready for the new term ahead.
This Autumn our learning context in KS2 is 'Explosive Times,' which kicks off with a fun visit to the Big Pit where children can become a miner for the day! The children will be exploring and investigating what life was like during the 19th century.
During the first half term the children will be learning about mining during their 'Black Gold' lessons, and then following this will be comparing and contrasting the lifes of the rich and the poor in their 'Rags to Riches' lessons. They will then learn about Victorian houses and households in 'Home Sweet Home.'
After half term the children contniue this context with an exciting trip to St Fagan's, where they will become Victorian children for the day. Please can girls wear school skirts for this trip and boys dress in smart school trousers. They will be provided with other items of caostume to wear. Beware I have heard that the Victorian School Mistress is very, very scary! We will follow on from this visit by learning more about Victorian Education.
During literacy they will be extending on this context by reading the novel Street Child by Berlie Doherty. This books explores the life of Jim, a boy living in the Victorian era who was tragically orphaned. This novel is based upon how the charity Dr Barnardos was founded.
PE this term will be taken by Sports Stars caoches and I am sure the children will continue to have lots of fun. The children will also have the chance to be awarded special sports star of the week certificates.
Hope you all have a lovely Autumn term.
